Yesterday we went and visited a couple named Sarah and Simon to find out about their initiative ‘Cradle of Hope’. The couple aim to reduce the number of abortions in New Zealand by giving hope to women facing crisis pregnancies.
The concept is simple yet effective – to create and provide gift packs to women who are contemplating abortion. Sarah and Simon hope that the gift packs will remind these mothers that someone cares, and that there is always hope for both them, and the baby growing inside them. The couple have formed a relationship with a pregnancy crisis centre in Auckland and hope to reach out to many more centres and expectant mothers around Auckland and the rest of the country.
Sarah and Simon showed us one of the gift packs which was beautifully done. The packs contain several items such as a CD of uplifting music, a photo frame for the baby’s first ultrasound photo and a pair of tiny, hand-knitted baby booties (which most touchingly, would have been knitted and donated – out of love – by someone in the community).
In order for this fantastic initiative to continue and become even more far-reaching, Cradle for Hope needs support. Donations of money, wool or your knitting finesse will be greatly appreciated and will without a doubt be a practical contribution to the prolife movement in New Zealand. Their website even has baby booties patterns and guidelines on how to knit!
