keep abortion safe and legal

Here is another blog post from Brendan Malone’s The Leading Edge, published on May 14th.

Earlier today the news broke that US abortionist Kermit Gosnell had been found guilty of three counts of first degree murder for killing infants immediately after birth, one count of third degree murder for killing a female patient, and many other counts of violating Pennsylvania abortion laws.
Here’s the official description of what the law enforcement teams found when they conducted a raid at Gosnell’s Philadelphia abortion clinic back in 2010:

When the team members entered the clinic, they were appalled, describing it to the Grand Jury as ‘filthy,’ ‘deplorable,’ ‘disgusting,’ ‘very unsanitary, very outdated, horrendous,’ and ‘by far, the worst’ that these experienced investigators had ever encountered. There was blood on the floor. A stench of urine filled the air. A flea-infested cat was wandering through the facility, and there were cat feces on the stairs. Semi-conscious women scheduled for abortions were moaning in the waiting room or the recovery room, where they sat on dirty recliners covered with blood-stained blankets. All the women had been sedated by unlicensed staff – long before Gosnell arrived at the clinic – and staff members could not accurately state what medications or dosages they had administered to the waiting patients. Many of the medications in inventory were past their expiration dates… surgical procedure rooms were filthy and unsanitary… resembling ‘a bad gas station restroom.’ Instruments were not sterile. Equipment was rusty and outdated. Oxygen equipment was covered with dust, and had not been inspected. The same corroded suction tubing used for abortions was the only tubing available for oral airways if assistance for breathing was needed…”
[F]etal remains [were] haphazardly stored throughout the clinic– in bags, milk jugs, orange juice cartons, and even in cat-food containers… Gosnell admitted to Detective Wood that at least 10 to 20 percent… were probably older than 24 weeks [the legal limit]… In some instances, surgical incisions had been made at the base of the fetal skulls. The investigators found a row of jars containing just the severed feet of fetuses. In the basement, they discovered medical waste piled high. The intact 19-week fetus delivered by Mrs. Mongar three months earlier was in a freezer. In all, the remains of 45 fetuses were recovered … at least two of them, and probably three, had been viable.”
Using the term ‘house of horrors’ to describe the facility that Gosnell ran is probably a woeful understatement.
Now before you become tempted to embrace the utterly preposterous falsehood that is the pro-choice narrative about this case (a narrative which claims that strict legal restrictions on abortion are the cause of the Kermit Gosnell case), just consider the following important point:
All of this happened in a state-licensed, legal, front-street abortion clinic in the USA – and it was allowed to carry on unchecked for more than three decades.

As a side note; it seems to me that the only crime that many pro-choice activists consider Gosnell guilty of is failing to mop the floors and clean the scissors before he carried out his barbaric acts.
Kermit Gosnell is not some errant aberration, he is the real-world personification of the pro-choice ideology without any makeup on, and without all the semantic smoke and mirrors that the pro-choice movement continually hides behind as a justification for their active promotion and militant support for the killing of innocent human beings.

This is exactly why the mainstream media, which is staffed largely by pro-choicer’s, has been so woefully remiss in its coverage of this case – they know full well that Gosnell is one of them, and that his case is Kryptonite to the pro-choice ideology (an ideology which would have us believe the lie that medical professionals who kill unborn human beings are some of the greatest humanitarians and defenders of human rights that this world has ever known).
They also knew that exposing the Gosnell case to media scrutiny would effectively put the pro-choice ideology on trial, running the very real risk of exposing its great hypocrisies and grave logical contradictions.
Like, for example, the fact that the most fundamental tenant of the pro-choice movement, the so-called ‘bodily rights for females’ principle, relies totally on denying bodily rights to unborn females.
Or the frightening reality that almost every single argument that is used by the pro-choice movement to try and ethically justify abortion, can also be used to justify infanticide, or the killing of other children.
And before my New Zealand readers are tempted to think that the Gosnell case has little practical relevance in this country, you need to consider the following important point:
Kermit Gosnell’s atrocities were only made possible because he operated within a legal framework of decriminalized abortion, where the regulations regarding abortion were loosened in the name of so-called ‘woman’s rights’.
Inspections of abortion clinics had ceased under former pro-choice Republican Governor Tom Ridge because it was claimed that they created “a barrier to women seeking abortions” (Gosnell’s facility had not been inspected by officials since 1993).
And then there is the National Abortion Federation (NAF), “a professional association of 400 abortion providers nationwide that offers referrals and services to member providers“.
NAF refused Gosnell membership back in 2009 because “there were far too many deficiencies at the clinic and in how it operated to even consider admitting Gosnell to NAF membership“. In court the NAF evaluator stated that “she had never seen anything like the conditions and practices she observed at Gosnell’s clinic in any of the roughly one hundred clinics she has visited in the United States, Canada, and Mexico“.
Yet no one from NAF, a pro-choice organisation whose stated mission is to ‘ensure safe, legal, and acceptable abortion care, and to promote health and justice for women’, ever reported Gosnell to the authorities.
This is all hugely important to NZ.
Right now the Abortion Law Reform Association of NZ (ALRANZ) is actively lobbying NZ politicians and the NZ media to try and have abortion decriminalized in this country, and to have current abortion safeguards removed.
ALRANZ press release, January 21, 2013:

“The Abortion Law Reform Association of New Zealand (ALRANZ) today called on the New Zealand government to mirror the actions of the United States 40 years ago and decriminalise abortion here [in NZ].”

AND: “…the women of New Zealand should have the right to an abortion without having to rely on meeting a set of criteria”
The ALRANZ website:“Removal of the system of certifying consultants and removal of the grounds will save money, simplify procedures, reduce delays and thereby… remove the need for unnecessary consultations…”

That’s right; ALRANZ are actively working to have the very same framework of decriminalized abortion, and loose abortion controls that allowed Kermit Gosnell to perpetrate his barbaric and vile acts in the US.
Just let that fact sink in for a moment.
ALRANZ are quick to issue press releases which, WITHOUT ANY PROOF OF GUILT, which accuse pro-lifers of unsavory tactics, yet, almost 12 hours after Gosnell has been found guilty of killing a female patient and several infants, their media department and blog still remains damningly silent on the matter.
Make no mistake about it, despite what it claims, the pro-choice movement is NOT a pro-woman movement, it is a pro-abortion movement committed to protecting abortion.
(Their continued attacks against the claims of women who are suffering from emotional or psychological harm caused by an abortion; their unwillingness to strongly oppose the practice of aborting female babies based on gender; and their support of a Tauranga FPA clinic offering a form of abortion which recent research shows to be far riskier for women are just several examples of how the pro-choice movement shows its true commitment to protecting abortion before women.)
If ALRANZ gets its way, and abortion is decriminalized in New Zealand, then it will only be a matter of time before this county is dealing with a Kermit Gosnell case of its own.
