Prolife Club Days

March 6th, 2009

We had our first two clubs days on Monday and Tuesday, and have one last one tomorrow, Wednesday. We’re happy with the positive response from people who stopped by our club. We handed out about 100 (?) pamphlets informing people about our club. They also got a free gingerbread cookie, shaped as a hand.

One idea Andy Moore (on our Exec.) had was a free raffle. Anyone passing our club stall can join this raffle to win a free copy of the DVD Bella. It’s a neat film, one highly recommended, and took the people’s choice award at the 2006 Toronto Independent Film Festival.

These are big days on Canterbury Campus. We have brought the prolife message to many people, and had almost 20 members sign up. Hopefully tomorrow we can tell more people about human life before birth. It’s so cool to be able to show the wee baby models, from 30 weeks right down to 7 weeks after conception.

Aside from clubs days, we’ve got a few thoughts going around our heads. First of all, a prolife club party. Seems like a good way to kick-start the year!:) And then we’ll get into business with organizing lectures, seminars, question and answer times, poster campaigns, debates, and possibly panel discussions.

We’d also really like to have sessions discussing how to talk to your mates about abortions or how to help a friend who’s considering/had an abortion. That’s because the most effective way to bring a message is on a friend-to-friend basis.

That’s a few of our ideas to keep the prolife message spreading throughout the campus this year. Any more ideas? … Please do email us at canterbury@prolife.org.nz

Plans to start Pro-Life Group at University of Canterbury

February 7th, 2009

Well, it’s only a couple weeks to go before Uni’s back. We’re feeling the pressure! At the moment, the plans are moving ahead for prolife. We have a sight booked for each of the clubs days, running from the 23-25th February. We’ve been racking our brains for a good statement of what our club is about. Here’s what we came up with:

We want to be a hub at the University of Canterbury for students who are pro-life, that is, valuing the preciousness of a baby’s life before birth. Also, we wish to help pregnant mothers by pointing them towards useful, caring counselling services. As well as having regular club meetings during term-time, we plan to run public forums and seminars at which we would present our views and welcome input. We believe this is a very relevant issue in today’s society and would like to help co-students understand better what abortion is.

So now we’re getting together brochures to hand out. Hopefully we can also sell some cool prolife t-shirts and precious hands/feet.

We want to promote all things prolife. Even now, people are joining us as members of prolife. We hope for more positive encouragement in this regard.
